A baby boy???

Every Sunday morning I get an email on my phone telling me the new developments of the baby and what fruit or vegetable it is the size of. Well, this week it was either a navel orange or an avacodo. (I go to the Dr tomorrow so I will hopefully get a better handle on how far along I am.) Anyway, in the email it said that the baby has now developed its ear bones and can hear voices. Noah proceeded to talk to my stomach about what we have been up to this week and things like that. I asked him what he thought the baby was, a boy or a girl. He said, "I have no idea. How am I supposed to know?" I told him, "Why don't you ask the baby what it is? I mean, it does have ear bones now and can hear your voice." He went with it to humor me.

I have been given permission from Noah to share the next part of the story with you. For those of you who know Noah, you know he is not shy about anything and loves to make a fool of himself. So, here it goes. I told the baby, " Okay, if you are a boy make a loud growling noise for your daddy to hear. But if you are a girl, be quiet and don't make a sound." With his ear pressed tightly on my stomach, I no more finished my statement to the baby then Noah let out a very loud and "growling" fart! His exact words.... "It's a Boy!!"

I love my husband!

Well this is just perfect...

Okay, the big news has somewhat been overshadowed by the big weather that we have been having. Noah and I are officially home owners! We finished the paperwork on Thursday and were supposed to move in Thursday evening. Well, mother nature had other ideas. We managed to get a few things over to the house today, but there is still a lot to do. We are supposed to be out of our apartment on Sunday, so this weekend is going to be busy busy. We are very excited to move into our "own" home together and hope that we have many, many visitors! I posted a picture looking out of our front door so you can see just how great our moving weather is :) I know I am complaining and I have to stop myself and realize that we are very blessed and happy to be starting a new road in our lives. More pics to come, once we get some things in the house.

Dear Baby,

During my run this afternoon I got to thinking how lucky you truly are. You don't realize this yet, but you are going to have one of the best daddy's of all time. There are a few things that you are going to need to know if you are going to make it in this family.

1. Your daddy is probably one of the most stubborn people of all time. Things will go a lot smoother if you learn this and learn how to back down every now and then; I have sure had to learn that.

2. Your daddy works so hard for his family! I can promise you one thing, you will never need for anything. You may want for a lot of things but there will not ever be a time that you will need for something. He will want you to have everything that your little heart desires, but he has made it his goal to not give you everything that you ask for. Instead he wants you to earn some things on your own and realize that things are not going to just be given to you in life. (I think he will stick to his guns on this one, unless you happen to be a little girl:) Then they may be harder than he thinks.

3. Your daddy is one of the funniest people I know. You may not understand his humor sometimes, as a matter of fact, you might consider his humor to be a bit embarrassing. But hey, he's your dad and he will most certainly try to make you blush from time to time.

4. There will be nobody who loves you more in this world than your daddy (well, maybe there is a tie between him and somebody else :), but he already loves you so much and counts down the days until he gets to meet you.
5. Every night your daddy will say a prayer over you, and one day you will be old enough to say them with your daddy before you go to bed every night.

Love,

Your mom

My bump, my bump, my lovely lady bump...

Here is the newest picture of the "bump". The picture is courtesy of my very talented husband. There is a bit more to see in this picture vs. the previous bump photo. I am either 14 or 15 weeks along here. The Dr. said the first ultrasound the baby was measuring at 6 weeks and 3 days, but when we went back for the second ultrasound the Dr. said the baby was measuring a week bigger than expected. Noah thinks that is the best news ever because he wants his baby to be HUGE! I have to disagree with the huge baby thing. I will take a healthy, average weighing baby thank you very much. Anyway, the Dr. said that the next time we do an ultrasound we will be able to tell how far along I am with more certainty. I go back to the Dr. on February 1st so we will see.

So far, the second trimester has been just as uneventful as the first trimester. I am not complaining by any means, just looking forward to feeling my little "lemon". That is right ladies and gentlemen, it is officially the size of a lemon. Weird enough, last week it was the size of a peach. If I am not mistaken, a peach is bigger than a lemon. Who knows what the little Allen baby is up to in there!

Check back in later this week for some exciting news that has nothing (well, almost nothing) to do with the baby!

Baby talk...

Since Noah has been gone this week, it has been just me and the baby and Duke the dog. I have been telling Noah over the past few weeks how weird it has been because I have not felt pregnant yet. I have been fortunate enough to not experience any morning sickness, I haven't had any cravings, and I am not really showing a baby bump yet. With the exception of the incident that happened a few blogs ago (you guys know what I am talking about) and becoming a bit more top heavy, I have felt no different.
Anyway, with Noah gone I have found myself talking to the baby all the time. We don't talk about anything important really, actually the baby doesn't say much right now :) so I do most of the talking. We mostly just talk about what we want to eat for dinner or what time we should take our shower or what we learned in class that day. Tonight, I think we are going to listen to some music while we study for neuroanatomy and pathology. This baby is going to be one smart cookie by the time it is born!

P.S. I have gained my first pound since being preggo! It's all downhill from here :)

Public Apology

I feel the need to publicly apologize to my dear husband for my "attitude" the past few days. I haven't been consistently on a rampage, but every couple of hours I tend to lash out at him for no reason at all. I am not ready to admit that my hormones may be getting the best of me because that would mean that I am letting pregnancy have some affect on me. Let's just say that I am just a bit more "sensitive" these days and may need to learn to walk away. Poor Noah, he is really trying not to laugh at me when I do "go off" on him but that is not really his personality. A perfect example is tonight. He asked me if I would clean off the cast iron skillet so we could make our shrimp and I got offended. For no good reason, I copped an attitude and he could not help but laugh. I realized how ridiculous I was being and finally decided to laugh with him. I sure hope this whole "attitude" thing comes to a screeching halt for his sake, otherwise this could be a long 6 months for us :)

Muppet Baby?

So, my brother and Noah have a history of saying that I have a "pig nose". I have denied it for years but I think they may be right. After going through some pictures of me when I was little there is definitely something a bit piggish about my nose. Maybe that is why Noah has called me "piggy higgy" for the past 6 years. (The higgy part is referring to my maiden name.)

Anyway, this morning Noah and I were talking about who we would want the baby to look like and he said that he would prefer the baby look like him at first. He said that he didn't want the baby to have a "Ms. Piggy" nose when it was little. He then preceded to tell me that I shouldn't be mad at him for making that comment because Ms. Piggy is the by far the prettiest pig he has ever seen! How sweet is he?!?! How always knows the right things to say to me!

Dear Baby,

First and foremost, let me apologize to you for eating McDonald's today. I know better than to feed you that kind of food, even if it did taste really good :) So, I'm sorry about that and will try and do much better in our future.

I have to be honest, I don't really feel like I am pregnant with you. I am not really showing and I haven't had any of the classic pregnancy symptoms. I know I should be careful what I wish for, but I can not wait to feel you move. The doctor told me I should begin to feel your movements in a couple of weeks and I am really looking forward to that. I can not wait to find out what to find out if you are a boy or a girl so I can stop calling you "lil bit". Your dad and I have picked out your name and are excited to refer to you by name. There are a lot of things that I can't wait for, but I can wait for you to develop into a healthy baby. Take your time in there and come out when you are good and ready.

Love,
Your Mom

Houston, we have a problem...

Okay, so I debated whether or not to write about this. Is it too personal? Is it something that will gross people out? After much deliberation, I decided to write about it and get input back from other women who have gone through what I went through today. If this is normal, please let me know. If not, please let me know. If it is not normal then I will delete this post and let's just pretend I never said anything.

So, I was in the middle of my afternoon run today and something happened that made me stop dead in my tracks. Here is where it gets embarrassing. I realized that as I was running, a little bit of pee came out. Yeah, I said it. It's not like a peed in my pants or anything, but it was a drop more than I am used to sprouting out during a run :) I talked to some very reliable sources that have experienced the same thing I did and I was reassured that it was very normal and it would probably only get worse. Great! I can't wait! Oh well, I guess it is just one of those things that we (pregnant women) get to endure to enjoy the life of motherhood.

I told Noah of my "experience" today and his response was not exactly what I was looking for. He said, "That's gross." How sweet is he?!? I told him that he has one job in the next 9 months, and that is to say to me "That's okay babe, I am sure that is normal." So far he has failed at his one job. I am sure there will be more opportunities for him to redeem himself though!

Dear Baby,

I got an email today from the bump.com that informed your dad and me that you were now the size of a lime. Your dad then proceeded to tell me that he "couldn't wait to squeeze the juices out of you." I know it is a bit odd, but that is your dad kiddo. Get used to those kinds of random, but funny, comments.

We also thought about you while we were at church this morning. The preacher was talking about parenting and what parents should do for their children. He said something that really stuck with us and we are going to try and implement into our parenting repertoire. He said that it is not our job to protect you from the world, but instead to equip you to change the world. Man, that is an impressive and challenging goal. Nonetheless, we will try our very best to help you become the person you need to be to change this world. We hope we can make you proud!

Love,
Your mom and dad

Crib shopping

Noah and I went to look at cribs today and see if we could decide on a color and style that we both liked. I must say, it was a lot easier than I expected. I thought he would want to spend about 3 minutes in the store and then be ready to go, but he did very well and was patient as I sorted through everything in the store. I found the bedding that I am dying to order if we end up having a girl! It is perfect because it is not pink! I am not really a pink person, so I knew for a fact the nursery would not be pink. The bedding has red, yellow, chocolate brown, and a bit of blue in it. It sounds very busy, but you just have to see it! Oh wait, you can see it! I think the bedding is named Delilah. It could be named "Poop" for all I care! That is how much I like it!

If I have a boy, then Noah wants to do the room in cowboy decor. We will know in March which bedding we need to buy! We can't wait!

Dear Baby,

As I was running this afternoon I had you on my mind. I got to thinking about how much I don't know about being your mom. There are about a million things that your dad and I have yet to learn, but I am counting on figuring it out as we go. Most things we don't know, but there are a few things we do know:

1. At some point you will fall down. Both figuritivly and literally. You will feel pain and disappointment. I can't promise that your dad and I can prevent this, but I can promise that we will be there to help you through it.

2. You will be a singer. (Notice I didn't say a good singer). Your dad and I both love to sing and we sing often, so if I were you I would get used to it and join in!

3. Come out ready to see lots of things. Your dad and I love to do things. You will be a part of that and you will accompanying us on our adventures. I am bound and determined to take you with us as much as possible.

4. This one is from your dad: come out ready to laugh!

We already love you and can't wait to meet you kiddo!

Love,
Your mom and dad

What our baby might look like...

Since I am on Christmas break and incredibly bored, I decided to upload a few pictures of Noah and I as kids. I wanted to give myself an idea of what our baby might look like.

This is my lovely self when I was 3. My poor child will probably be stuck with my hair. Sorry kid.

Another picture of yours truly when I was 2. I must say my outfit is something else.

This picture is of my handsome husband. He is the second from the left (how could you miss him with those cheeks?) Noah's brother Caleb is on the far left, his good friends Amanda and Allison, and his other good friend Janna. (If I am not mistaken, it looks like they are all wearing women's hats!)

The last picture is of my mom pregnant. She may kill me for putting this on there, but I needed to see what I could look like pregnant. Sadly enough, she still wears these pants :)

Sorry about the way the pictures look, I am new at this!

Dear Baby,

I read somewhere that you are starting to develop your ears and will soon be able to hear sounds and noises. I told your daddy that this morning and he decided to sing you a song. I asked him what he thought you might like to hear for your first song and he started to sing "My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard, and their like it's better than yours...". It was not exactly the song that I thought he would choose for you, but I am beginning to think he may suspect you might be a girl. Only time will tell.

Love,
Mom

Fun weekend with the girls

One of my best friends came into town this weekend to visit me over Christmas break. I played basketball with Casey for a few years in college and we quickly became great friends. We have so many things in common and I am always so excited when I get to see her. She got into town Friday night and we went to eat with our other great friend Laura. On Saturday Casey, Laura and I went to Campus Corner and did a little shopping and eating. We decided to keep the weekend pretty low key and go over to Laura's house for a cookout and game night on Saturday night. We played Scatagories and I must say that Noah is pretty awful at that game, ( he is funny but awful.) Casey also decided that it was time to post a "baby bump" picture so I caved in and let her take one. This is my bump at 11 weeks. I may see a little bit of something going on but not much. From here on out Noah is going to have to be my official "bump" photographer, so I make no promises for any future pictures :)

This should be interesting....

Well, hello blogger world. I thought it might be nice to start a blog that would allow my family and friends, who live out-of-town, to follow Noah and me throughout the pregnancy. I am pretty awful at keeping things like blogging up to date (even though this is my first go at blogging, I can speculate that I will probably not be very good). So, let's just see how this whole thing pans out.

In November, Noah and I were very surprised to find out that we were expecting our first child. It is not exactly what you would call a "planned" pregnancy, but we are excited, scared, nervous, anxious, and about a thousand other feelings. So far I haven't had any morning sickness, just the occasional icky feeling that typically goes away after eating something. I am 11 weeks along and I don't think that I am showing. Even though a few friends swear they can see "something", I kindly remind them that the "something" that they are referring to could just be because I haven't gone to the bathroom in 2 days day! Gross, I know! But if I am going to write this thing, I am going to be honest about what is going on. Anyway, the baby is healthy and growing like a "monster" as Noah calls it. The last ultrasound had the heart rate at 158 beats per minute and the baby was moving around like crazy. I told the ultrasound tech that it was definitely it's fathers child because Noah hasn't been able to sit still since he was born.

Not much else going on other than that. I will post the ultrasound pics and maybe a bump pic later to see if that "something" that my friends are talking about is really there.
