Dear Presley,

Your room is not even close to being done. If you came into our world today, you would barely have a bed to sleep in. You have dressy clothes to hang around in, but I still need to get you some pajamas to sleep in. Your room may not be done, but you will be coming into a home and a family that is more than ready to meet you. We guess who you will look like. We guess if you will have hair or be a baldy. We guess if you will have the same luscious lips as your brother. We guess a lot of things.

But we don't guess about how you will fit into our little family. We have no doubt that you will fit right in without missing a beat. That you will fit just as perfectly in that little nook between our neck and shoulder as your brother did. That you will have that perfect sweet new baby smell that only a parent can understand. No doubt that you will have a brother who is obsessed with you. Who will want to protect you and love on you.

We can't wait to meet you.

Love,
Mom and Dad and Cash

Dear Cash,

Tonight, your daddy and I laid with you in your new "big boy bed". That's right, you are in a twin size bed and doing fabulous. You don't get out of bed in the middle of the night and think it's so fun to wake up saying, " I wake up in my big boy bed". Your daddy and I couldn't be prouder.

Tonight, we all three snuggled in what seemed like a tiny little bed burrito and said our nightly prayers. We prayed for you and your "sissy" and for your heart to be prepared to be a big brother. We prayed for what seemed like ten minutes... and then we just laid there. We laid there in complete silence with the stars from your little night light frog dancing on the ceiling. We had no distractions. No cell phones. No TV. No computers. No toys. Just our own starlight and moon. And our little family.

Just the three of us, well technically four of us, piled in your new bed. Snuggling. Feet intertwined. Listening to one another breathe. And it was perfect. It was one of the first time that I looked at us, in a completely distraction-free moment, and felt like a family of 4. And it made me happy.

Really happy.

Love,
Mom

A little advice for my son...

I found this while on the internet the other day and thought it was good, appropriate, and useful advice to pass along to you, Cash. Pay attention...

1. You will set the tone for the sexual relationship, so don't take something away from her that you can't give back.

2. Play a sport.  It will teach you how to win honorably, lose gracefully, respect authority, work with others, manage your time and stay out of trouble.   And maybe even throw or catch.

3. Use careful aim when you pee.  Somebody's got to clean that up, you know.

4. Save money when you're young because you're going to need it some day.

5. Allow me to introduce you to the dishwasher, oven, washing machine, iron, vacuum, mop and broom.  Now please go use them.

6. Pray and be a spiritual leader.

7. Don't ever be a bully and don't ever start a fight, but if some idiot clocks you, please defend yourself.

8. Your knowledge and education is something that nobody can take away from you.

9. Treat women kindly.  Forever is a long time to live alone and it's even longer to live with somebody who hates your guts.

10. Take pride in your appearance.

11. Be strong and tender at the same time.

12. A woman can do everything that you can do.  This includes her having a successful career and you changing diapers at 3 A.M.  Mutual respect is the key to a good relationship.

13. "Yes ma'am" and "yes sir" still go a long way.

14. The reason that they're called "private parts" is because they're "private".  Please do not scratch them in public.

15. Peer pressure is a scary thing.  Be a good leader and others will follow.

16. Bringing her flowers for no reason is always a good idea.

17. Be patriotic.

18. Potty humor isn't the only thing that's humorous.

19. Please choose your spouse wisely.  My daughter-in-law will be the gatekeeper for me spending time with you and my grandchildren.

20. Remember to call your mother because I might be missing you.

Love,
Mom

Just Cash and Daddy...

Lately you have been taking more of interest in daddy. You are not so hung up on being held by mommy and wanting mommy to play football. And baseball. And golf. And basketball (although, stick with mommy on that one). Don't get me wrong, you still love your mommy. And right now, if something isn't right or if you are hurt or whatever, you prefer mommy. But that daddy son gene is starting to flicker through your eyes right now and it is so much fun to watch. Here are some pics from what you are daddy are up to lately...

Just lounging without your shirts on. If daddy has his shirt off, Cash "needs" his shirt off...

You are obsessed with going to daddy's softball games. I really think it is the highlight of your week. It doesn't matter if daddy hits a home run or pops up to the pitcher... no one is more proud of him than you...

Cheesing for the camera of course...

Just laying in bed watching the Ryder Cup... we won't get into the outcome this year...

And reppin' your "Awesome like my Dad" t-shirt all over town...

Mom

Dear Cash,

My little boy is not so little anymore. You are growing up so fast and it really is a double-edged sword. It is so incredible to watch you grow and watch you learn new things and try to take on the world as an independent soul. It swells my chest with pride because I know how special you are and how special you will be. Call it a "mother's intuition". But it is also killing me. It's killing me to know my baby boy is growing up right in front of my eyes. And I can't stop it. I can't slow it down for even a day to soak of every drop of "baby" you have left in you.

I sometimes try to carry you like a baby and tell you that you were my very first baby.

The very meaning of unconditional love.

The heartbeat outside of my own chest.

The sunshine to my days and the moonlight to my nights.

I love you. More than you will ever truly know. More than I will ever be able to tell you and show you, I'm sure. But my prayer for you in life is for you to know this kind of love for yourself. And know that there are only a handful of people in this world that will truly love you unconditionally. Your family and God. Those are the ones I can promise you. Anyone else is just icing on the cake.

Enough with the mushy stuff... here is what you have been up to lately...

Just hanging out at Mexican restaurants...

Kicking it with your friend, Ellie...

Learning that the "National Anthem" and putting your hand over your heart while giving the flag your full and undivided attention is something that is sacred and still valued in this country. And no matter what anyone says, you DO NOT say Boomer at the end of it. Honor it enough to sing the right words...

Just going to school to take fall pictures. Daddy got you dressed in this picture. I think he did rather well, don't you?

I will post again on ALL of the funny things you are saying and doing. You are hilarious.

Love,
Mom
